If you are going to dive into freezing water than you are going to have to pack up all of the necessary equipment. The most important thing you need to have on hand is a dry suit. It does not matter how much you spend on it and what brand you buy as long as it fits your whole body, it is waterproof, and you can move around in it comfortably. Some of the most popular to use are the Neoprene suits. These are designed with stretch material and provide additional insulation to protect the body.
Most shell suits do not have any additional insulation – but are much lighter and are able to dry quicker. These are designed to keep the diver dry. However, you must wear extra layers of clothes underneath to keep yourself warm. Bring a dry suit repair kit with you at all times in case of emergencies.
The waterproof dry suits are tested in the most extreme cold waters located in the polar regions and are designed specifically for this type of water even if you will not use it there. One of the best products is the Draco Drysuit that is made with 3.5 mm Special Hi-Dense neoprene and SD Toughtex lining.
This is reinforced with Kevlar and has an angled boot, armoured dry zipper, SAS zip cuff system, and is embossed with PU reinforced shoulders and double pockets. It has been tested and approved by the Waterproof International in Sweden. This costs around $2,000.
Dry Suit Attachments
Not all dry suits will come with a hood attached to it. If yours does not than you need to purchase a waterproof neoprene hood complete with a face and neck seal. Along with a hood you should also purchase semi-dry gloves that can be interchanged with any type of dry suit and allow you to grab things without any trouble. The three finger mitts will keep your hands warmer – but the five fingered gloves will give you more room to move around.
